Policies and Procedures

Welcome! We are excited you have chosen Stepping Stones to provide a loving and fun environment for your child.

All children must be accompanied by their parent/guardian into their group when being dropped off. A labeled cubby will be provided for each child for their personal belongings.
Make sure all of your child's belongings are clearly labeled with their first and last name and that you have all of your child's belongings when you leave for the day.
All children need to be signed in daily. This ensures your child has accurate attendance records and allows the center staff to know who is in the building on each particular day.
If your child will not be attending school for a particular reason (sickness, family trip, etc) please inform the center of the duration of the absence.
Please notify the director of any schedule changes for your child, such as a change in drop off or pick up time. This will ensure proper staff scheduling.
Only persons authorized on your enrollment form will be permitted to pick up your child from the center. A written notice must be received from the parent to add or delete a name from the list. All authorized persons will be asked to show a picture identification upon pick up.
Our center participates in monthly evacuation drills. In the case of an emergency, children will be able to better respond to the situation if they have had practice in the past.
For parents of infants and toddlers: The center is not permitted to mix any type of formula. All formula must arrive at the center premixed and labeled with your child's first and last name and current date.
Please supply the center with enough commercial baby food and premixed formula for your child each day along with a written feeding plan.
All bottles must be plastic and labeled. All bottles and opened food jars must be brought home daily otherwise they will be discarded.
We will provide two snacks and one lunch to each child ages toddler and above each day. The menu will vary from day to day. Please notify the staff of any food allergies or special dietary needs for your child.
We all love to celebrate birthday parties and special occasions but please speak to the director before bringing any special treats into the center.
Please make sure to bring enough diapers, ointment, powder and changes of clothes necessary for your child each day.
For parents of toddlers who are not completely potty trained: We need to have adequate clothing for your child in case of an accident while being potty trained. Please supply your child with at least 5 pairs of training pants. Also, please notify the staff of your training progress at home so we can better help your child while in the center.
We ask that you do not allow your child to bring toys from home to the center. If a special item is necessary at nap time, we can store their item in their cubby until the afternoon and then return it once they have woken up.
Immunization records must be kept on file at the center for all children. If your child is not up to date, they will be removed from the center until their immunizations are complete.
Stepping Stones is not licensed to care for ill children. Please keep your child at home if he/she has had any of the following symptoms within the last 24 hours: vomiting , diarrhea, temperature over 100 degrees, chronic coughing or a contagious illness such as chicken pox or the measles.
Should your child become ill during the day, the center will contact you. Arrangements need to be made so that your child will be picked up from the center within one hour.
Should your child be absent with a contagious illness, a doctor's note will be required for re-entry to the center
A non-refundable enrollment fee is required for all children and is charged annually. A form for updated information will be mailed to your home when the fee is due.
Tuition is billed weekly (one week in advance) and is due each Monday. Parents can pay for multiple weeks at one time or pay week by week. Payments will be considered late by close of business on Tuesday and will be subject to a $10 per day late fee.
Stepping Stones accepts cash, personal checks, money orders and cashier's checks. A secure tuition drop box is located in the reception area.
Depending on various bank fees, a fee will be charged for all returned checks.
The center is open Monday through Friday from 6:30am to 6:30pm.
Late pick-ups will result in a $5.00 fee per child for every 15 minute interval that a parent arrives after 6:30pm. Charges will be added to the following week's tuition
There will be no refunds or adjustments for missed days due to illness, vacations or holidays. A place has been reserved for each child and cannot be filled on a short-term basis.
The center will be closed on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. National holidays are considered normal business days; therefore tuition will be due for a complete week.
The center will be open for half days on New Year's Eve and Christmas Eve. Please see the center director for specific hours of closing.
In the event of dangerous weather, the center will follow the closing of the local public schools.
Two weeks written notice is required if you intend to remove your child from the center. All children must be withdrawn for more than four weeks before they may re-enroll.
In cases of severe behavioral disturbances on the part of the child, childcare services may be terminated immediately by the center after a conference with the parents and the director.

Medication Policy

Stepping Stones will administer medication to children following the procedures outlined below:

Medication or special medical procedures shall be administered to a child only when there is a written, signed and dated request from the parent or guardian.
Prescription drugs and other medications required by the child shall be in the original containers and clearly labeled with the child's name and dosage schedule and shall include written directions for administering the medication.
Non-prescription medication may be administered to a child if the dosage schedule is specified in writing by the parent or the guardian.
The time and dosage of all medication administered to children shall be recorded by the director or staff member with a copy provided to the child's parent or guardian.
All medications shall be kept in a locked area inaccessible to the children, shall be stored in a separate location from toxic chemicals and other harmful agents and shall be removed when no longer needed.

Guidance Policy

Our goal of guidance is the training of character development, social competence and self control to each child. The staff of Stepping Stones has agreed on the following terms of guidance for the children:

No corporal punishment shall be used in the center.
Appropriate limits or rules shall be those necessary to safeguard children and the premises and shall be explained to each child at their level of understanding.
Staff shall not deprive children of food, liquids, naps or bathroom facilities.
No verbal abuse such as inappropriate language nor abusive voice commands shall be permitted.
No cruel, harsh or unusual punishment or treatment shall be permitted.
Unsupervised isolation is prohibited - when deemed necessary a "time out" chair maybe used for children that exhibit aggressive, disruptive or destructive behavior. This chair will remain in full view of a teacher.
